Barony of Carolingia, East Kingdom of the SCA

JA slide show

Meet Baronessa Venture and Baron Fergus

ImiglaVentureBaronessa Venture (who is happy to be called "V") was drawn in to the SCA in 1993 by her interest in costuming. Her first event was An Tir's May Crown Tournament XXVIII. Since that time she was active in the Kingdoms of AEthelmearc (1996-1998), Middle (1998-2001), and Caid (2004-2006) before settling in the East, and feels that her nomadicism has allowed her a unique experience to see the many different ways in which we play.

She dabbles heavily in researching the clothing of various eras and regions, and likes to explore the trade connections between India and Venice during the 13th and 14th centuries. She has also experimented with Roman, Mycenean, and late North Indian clothing. After earning renown for her research into the culture of medieval South India, she was elevated to the Order of the Laurel at Pennsic 39. She was elected Baroness of Carolingia in April of 2012 alongside Fergus MacRae.

The Baronessa has a more detailed profile on the East Kingdom wiki pages, here.

Baron Fergus MacRae first came to Carolingia when he was an itinerant actor engaging in swordplay and the kind of behavior itinerant actors are known for. Having found a place and people who appreciated all these activities, he stayed. In the SCA, Fergus has been a fencer, actor, director and dogsbody as the occasion warranted. Along the way, he’s accumulated a handful of awards and an appreciation for all the work that it takes to make a Barony run.

Baronessa Venture and Baron Fergus are honored to have been entrusted with leading Carolingia, a barony made up of many wonderful people and the work of more than forty years. We are  inspired by those who came before us and whom we have had the privilege to know - Baron Patri du Chat Gris and Baroness Barbara Viggiani Milanese, Baron Aquel of Darksted Wood and Baroness Johanna Dudley, and Baron Jehan du Lac.

We wish to encourage the arts, sciences, martial pursuits and fun in Carolingia. We believe in good times, good theater and good will among all people – even when we’re at war with them. Come join us.
