Barony of Carolingia, East Kingdom of the SCA

Carolingia Fortieth Anniversary

ValentineanddisciplesIt has been a long and wonderful journey since the first event in Carolingia, the St.  Valentine's Day Ball held at Wellesley College in February of 1971.  Come celebrate with us as the Barony of Carolingia honors the 40th Anniversary of it's founding with a celebration event.  There will be something for everyone, as we will have fighting, fencing, thrown weapons, European dancing instruction and ball, performances, an A&S display, and of course, a hearty dayboard prepared by Lady Safiya Shirazi and a fabulous feast prepared by Lady Richenza.  As the site is a German Cultural center, they will have a cash bar with German beer open throughout the day.  No other alcohol is permitted.  We invite all current and former citizens of our Barony as well as all of our esteemed neighbors to join us in these activities, or just come and reconnect with old friends and new.

However, this event is not just about celebration.  As the winter snows recede, the scent of War is in the air.  To help prepare our armies for the coming conflicts, we will also be hosting a War Practice as part of this event.  For our fighters and fencers, we will have open fields and woods available throughout the day to hone our melee skills.  Armor inspections will begin at 10:30am, and fighting will begin by 11:30.  There will also be a thrown weapons range set up for those interested to hone their skills.

If you are a musician, storyteller, or performer, we will have a performance stage available throughout the day for you to entertain the populace.  Please contact our performance coordinator to reserve a time to perform.  In addition to these performances, iSebastiani, Carolingia's own Commedia dell'Arte troupe, will entertain us with a show in the afternoon, which will be followed by the Court of Queen Jana and the Baronial Court of Baron Jehan.

His Excellency, Baron Jehan du Lac of Carolingia will be selecting his Baronial fighting, fencing, A&S, and Performing Champions at this event.  If you wish to serve as a Champion in any of these areas, be sure to enter the appropriate competitions.  Please check the event website for details on the A&S competition.  If you plan to enter the A&S competition, please let the A&S coordinator know in advance.

Merchants are welcome and encouraged to attend.  There is no charge beyond the gate fee to sell your wares at the event, but merchants must contact the autocrat ahead of time to reserve a space.

As we expect this event may be of interest to many who have been citizens of our Barony in the past, but who have been absent for some years, we will have plenty of loaner garb (Gold Key) available for those who no longer have, or don't fit into their old garb.  If you know you will need to borrow garb, please reach out to our Gold Key coordinator with size requirements so we can do our best to have something that works for you.  You can also make arrangements with him to pick garb up in advance, so you can be sure you will have it for the event.

The event schedule, menus, and other details will be added to the event website, located at http://carolingia.net/fortieth/ as the event gets closer.

Please note that all activities except thrown weapons will take place rain or shine, as there is a large covered pavilion available for fighting and fencing in the event of bad weather.
